モン語

語源

中期モン語には動詞・副詞として見られるが古モン語では確認できず、はっきりした語源は不明である。cf. 古ビルマ語 [文字 needed] (plan) (> ビルマ語 ပြန် (pranʻ)〈戻る、反復する〉)。H. L. Shorto の『6世紀-16世紀のモン語碑文辞典』ではビルマ語 လန် (lanʻ)〈ひっくり返る〉を借用してモン語の体系で使役形（つまりビルマ語でいう လှန် (lhanʻ)〈ひっくり返す〉にあたる形）としたものではないかとされている[1][2]。
