it の再帰形。三人称単数の再帰代名詞の一つ。ものや動物などに対して用いる。男性に対しては himself、女性に対しては herself を使う。

   1. 前に現れた主語を示す。

      The door closed by itself

      そのドアは勝手に閉まった。

   2. （主語の強調）

      The door itelf is quite heavy.

      そのドア自体がすごく重たい。
